Bartholomew the Badger Listens Closely by Shanela Parvez has received the Wordscape Wonders Award from OneTribune Media and has been shortlisted for the BREW Readers’ Choice Award by The Chrysalis BREW Project.
OneTribune Media recognized the book under its Wordscape Wonders Award, which honors works that examine human experience through story. In its award description, Wordscape Wonders states, “stories are more than just words on a page—they are bridges across worlds,” and that the award “honors books that explore the landscapes of the human spirit, blending diverse voices with themes of love, resilience, growth, and discovery.”
The book follows events in Whispers Vale during preparations for the Starbright Festival, focusing on Lulu, a young hedgehog whose attentiveness allows her to perceive changes others overlook. Through interactions with Bartholomew the Badger, the story presents listening as a shared responsibility rather than a passive act. OneTribune Media’s review notes, “Some stories arrive quietly and still manage to change the room,” and describes the setting as “a landscape shaped by sound and attention, where even the wind seems to have intentions.”
The same review observes that “there is no villain to defeat, only a storm that must be understood,” framing conflict around cooperation and awareness. It also highlights how the narrative centers on observation, stating that Lulu “does not rush to the center of attention, yet the narrative makes it clear that her way of knowing matters.”
In addition to the Wordscape Wonders Award, the book has been shortlisted for the BREW Readers’ Choice Award by The Chrysalis BREW Project, placing it among titles selected for reader consideration within its category.
